The Isle of Man Government has revealed that they collected £21.3 million EXTRA in income tax than they budgeted for last year. This wasn’t planned. They don’t need it for any specific purpose. This extra tax should be returned to the people it was taken from: £473 for every income taxpayer on the Island.
The Government says that the extra tax was collected “due to factors such as higher interest rates“. This extra tax should be given back to the people who paid it.
That’s YOUR money.
The Government admits that this tax windfall came from higher interest rates. The accounts also reveals that the government already had enough money to deliver its planned services. This extra £21.3 million? It’s a windfall surplus. It is an overpayment by the public to the Government that belongs in your pocket, not government coffers.
Further, this extra tax was taken in error by the Treasury Department because they made a bad forecast. The Treasury Department shouldn’t take extra income tax because it made a bad forecast. That’s a recipe for further errors.
We’re Taking Action
The Manx TaxPayers’ Alliance has launched a petition to the Treasury Minister calling for this money to be returned to where it belongs: To you, the income taxpayers who paid it.
The proposal is simple: every one of the Island’s 45,000 income taxpayers should receive a payment of around £473. No complicated schemes. Minimum bureaucracy. Just your money, returned to you.
Why This Matters
Think what £473 could mean for your family:
- Help with rising energy bills;
- Extra support for grocery costs;
- A boost to your savings; or
- Simply money to spend in our local economy.
The government has already funded everything it planned to do. There’s no need to cut any services. This is about a fundamental principle: when government takes more than it needs, it should give it back.
We Need YOUR Voice
This campaign will only succeed if taxpayers across the Island stand together. The government needs to hear that we expect them to do the right thing.
Sign the petition today and demand your £473 back.
Share this with friends, family, and colleagues. Every income taxpayer on the Island has a stake in this. The more voices we have, the harder it becomes for government to ignore us.
This is a rare opportunity. The government has admitted they have £21.3 million they didn’t plan for and don’t need. Let’s make sure it goes back where it belongs – in your pocket.
Act now. Sign the petition. Get your money back.
Together, we can make this happen.

The government have a simple choice – return OUR money or forever be branded as incompetent liars for claiming to be so skint for all this time. They should pay us back and then resign immediately.
And another thing – WHEN the rebate happens it had better go to private individuals first and not to businesses, especially not to those who help people hide their money.
What a disgrace our government is
Our government is a joke. The island needs to get together for a vote of no confidence and scrap whoever is in charge. The mismanagement of money along with countless other things has gone on for far too long. Absolutely useless
