Agronomics Limited, a pioneering Isle of Man-based firm specialising in cellular agriculture, has announced a significant milestone in the field of sustainable food production. Its portfolio company, Mosa Meat, has successfully secured €40 million in a highly sought-after funding round aimed at revolutionising beef production.

The investment, led by influential backers including Lowercarbon Capital LLC and M Ventures, marks a crucial step for Mosa Meat in scaling up their operations and moving towards market entry. The round saw contributions from a variety of new investors, including notable government-backed entities such as Invest-NL and the European Commission’s InvestEU programme.

Mosa Meat, renowned for creating the world’s first cultivated beef hamburger in 2013, has been at the forefront of the cultured meat industry. With the opening of their fourth production facility in November 2023, they have solidified their position as the largest cultured meat centre globally. This expansion is set to increase their production capacity significantly, with the company preparing for its first formal tastings in the Netherlands later this year.

Maarten Bosch, CEO of Mosa Meat, expressed gratitude towards the diverse range of investors supporting this venture. “In an increasingly polarised environment, we choose to connect and collaborate, aiming to provide cultivated beef as a genuine choice for consumers,” Bosch stated. He highlighted the dual challenges of climate change and food security that their products aim to address.

Agronomics has been an integral part of Mosa Meat’s journey, having invested €3.5 million in the Series B funding round in 2020. The company’s involvement underscores the Isle of Man’s growing influence in innovative industries, including sustainable agriculture.

This latest development not only advances Agronomics’ position in the market but also showcases the Isle of Man’s potential as a hub for modern, sustainable industries aiming to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues.
