The Castletown Hockey Club 2025 End of Season Awards were held at the Douglas Golf Club on Saturday 28 June, 2025.

2024 Mixed Season
Celts – Will Collister
Celts Captain Dulcie Teare – Premier League: 4th place
This person has been a pleasure to play alongside. They have trained week in-week out and has been a real level head on the pitch (which is particularly needed amongst some of the fiery characters on the Celts team!!). The Celts player of the season this year goes to Will Collister.
Southerners – Lucy Allen and Ned McGregor
Southerners Captain Sam Sleight – Division 1: Champions & Plate Winners
Every player was amazing, making the Player of the Season selection incredibly difficult. However, recognising the club’s past challenges with scoring, we celebrate our joint top goal scorers, who bagged 21 goals between them – Lucy Allen and Ned McGregor.
Cammags – Faith Watterson
Cammags Captain Al Ledger – Division 2: 2nd place
I was supported by a cast of much more talented hockey players who did all the hard work for me. There’s no time to go through all of them but the standout player this season worked hard through training, showed tremendous tenacity in their pressing and unflappable composure in possession. Their team spirit was fantastic, even coming down to cheer the team on while they were injured. Congratulations, Faith Watterson!
Cushags – Isla Collister
Cushags’ Captain Marc Bolton – Division 2: 5th place
Player of the season was a close call this year for Cushags, a special shoutout to Connie Sellors who played in every game and to Chris Sterio for getting 5 goals in his 4 performances and Dani Kelly close behind Sterio scoring 4 goals. But there was one player that grew game by game and put in some great performances. A big well done goes to Isla Collister!
Cosney – Stephen Mulhern
Cosney’s Captain Simon Phythian – Division 3: Champions
Huge credit to our young stars — Lauren Collister, Isla Cox, Jake Beardwood, Neve McNaught, and Ryan Eggbury — who brought energy and commitment all season long. We also finished with the league’s top 2 goal scorers, Keiran (14) and Sophie (11) plus another 9 of our players made it onto the final scorer’s table too! However, Cosney’s player of season award goes to someone very new to the sport but wasn’t afraid to get themselves stuck in. Congratulations go to Stephen Mulhern.
Carrick – Ashton Fick and Theo Henderson
Carrick’s Captains Lynne and Kenny Valerga – Division 3: 7th place
Too many amazing players to mention everyone in the squad and we all had great fun playing hockey this year! So on to the award; the captain’s award was a difficult decision but we chose two players for their willingness to play in a variety of positions, their enthusiasm, high energy and commitment. Congratulations go to Ashton Fick and Theo Henderson.
Indoor – Faith Watterson
Playing indoor is always a fun way to improve your fitness and stick skills. Welcoming new players to the indoor game this year was great to see and they progressed really quickly. People had the opportunity to play in different positions and play against players and teams they might not play against outdoors. The indoor player of the year; grew in confidence pretty quickly, was eager to learn and adapt to the indoor game. They effortlessly glided past people, setting up goals and scoring them too. A real asset to the team and club, this year the winner is Faith Watterson.
2025 Men’s
Men’s A – Corbin Stewart
Captain Steven Ronan – Premier League: 3rd place
This season was a true team effort, so well done to everyone. This player has such a high work rate and he has done an incredible job at driving the team forward this. He has been vocal and determined. We are going to miss this player, as well as all the other boys off to university in September. This year the Men’s A player of the season goes to Corbin Stewart.
Men’s B – Andy Wignall
Captain Chunk – Division 1: 4th place
Too many heroic performances over the season to list individually but one player who did stand out for a ridiculous work rate and performance in the middle of the park, sometimes appearing in 2 places at once and disrupting opposition attacks before they even had the ball! A well-deserved Player of the Season Andy Wignall.
Men’s C – Brian Quayle
Captain Kenny Valerga – Division 2: 4th place
Player of the Season goes to someone who played nearly every match, and helped us to be competitive by making numerous fine saves. In an understated way, he was also a fine role model for the youngsters. Men’s C player for 2025 goes to GK, Brian Quayle.
2025 Ladies
Ladies A – Evie Watterson
Captain Sara Faragher – Premier League: Champions and Cup winners
It was so hard to pick just one Player of the Season because everyone was outstanding. But this year, it goes to Evie Watterson. Evie has been a key player — consistently performing, scoring, setting up goals, and playing with calm determination. Despite her UK development commitments, she still turns up for us. Well done, Evie — truly deserved!
Ladies B – Eden McCubbin
Captain Ash Lachenicht – Division 1: Champions
Every player was incredible throughout the whole season, making this decision incredibly difficult. This player has a fantastic work rate, set up and scored goals for us and always had a positive influence on the pitch. Ladies B player for 2025 goes to Eden McCubbin.
Ladies C – Duene Visser & Neve McNaught
Captains Lee Ann McNaught and Sophie Phythian – Division 1: 5th place
At the end of every game, we all voted for our Player of the Match, everyone on the team got voted over the season and the player with the highest votes was Lauren Collister. “Well done, Lauren, if you could come up your captains have a small award for you”. Sophie and I (LeeAnn) have chosen 2 players this year for our player of the season award, both players never stopped running and took on every challenge with no complaints. Both are very strong players and both happen to play the same position just on opposite sides. They made it very hard for anyone to get through them and when they did, they instantly tracked back to defend again. Ladies C players of the year go to Duene Visser and Neve McNaught.
Ladies D – Flo Heselton & Geraldine Emsley
Captain Lynne Valerga – Division 1: 6th place
With such a great mix of ladies, Captain’s award was a very difficult decision… this year I have chosen my first player who is always leading by example, she fights hard to win every 50:50 ball and is such a positive, encouraging teammate and another player who had a great season developing her game in different positions and was a force to be reckoned with on the pitch. We’re sorry to lose one of them as next season she’ll be at school in the UK but hope she’ll continue to train and play with CHC whenever she’s back home on the island. So, my ladies D players of the Year are Geraldine Emsley and Flo Heselton.
Ladies E -Rachael Cubbon
Captain Caitriona Ellis – Division 2: 6th place
This player was supportive, positive and worked tirelessly on the pitch. A true competitor who picked their stick back up this season and made it look easy. Her determination on the pitch helped the whole squad grow in confidence – congratulations to player of the season… Rachael Cubbon.

As chairman of the club, I love to see the passion that we all share for the sport. I enjoy to see people working hard at training and working hard for the team on the pitch on Saturdays. This person has shown this throughout their time playing for Castletown Hockey Club and the progress they have made is incredible. This dedication has got them to where they are now and I hope it inspires other members of the club to work hard and aim high too. He has been a part of this club for a long time, starting with us in the junior set up, making his way through to Men’s A and Celts. Not only has he been playing incredibly well on Island for club, he’s been an integral part of the IOM U18s team and also making his IOM Senior Men’s appearances. He has continued to aim higher, as he will be making his Welsh international appearances in the upcoming European Championships this summer. This year, my Chairmans Award goes to Archie Cox.
